PUBG Mobile Esports to let fans vote for favorite players at PMWI Afterparty Showdown; Indian and Korean gamers barred

The second phase of the ongoing PUBG Mobile World Invitational (PMWI) 2022, the Afterparty Showdown, is scheduled for from August 18 to 20, with 12 teams battling across three days for a prize pool of $1 million.

To make the event exciting for fans, Tencent has included many special awards and contests in the competition, including the Fan Favorite Player.

The first week (Main Event), which concluded on August 13, saw 18 teams competing across three days for five Afterparty Showdown slots and a prize pool of $2 million.

Fan Favorite Player award in PMWI Afterparty

On August 17, PUBG Mobile Esports will make a post on its official Instagram account to ask fans who their favorite PUBG Mobile player is.

All players (excluding those from 7SEA and Damwon Gaming), who are playinng in the Afterparty Showdown will leave their comments on the post, appealing fans to like their comments.

After the end of Day 2’s matches, i.e., August 19, the player who gets the most number of likes on their comment will be announced as the winner of the Fan Favorite award. They will subsequently be awarded $10,000 in prize money.

Players from two countries will not be allowed to participate for Fan Favorite Player award

Tencent has barred players from Indian and Korean players from participating in the award, meaning only comments from 10 teams’ players will be considered.

In the award, players from China were not allowed to participate as well. Unfortunately, Chinese team RSG placed sixth in the main event and did not qualify for the Afterparty.

South Korean team Damwon Gaming has qualified for the stage. Meannwhile, BGMI Showdown champions 7SEA have been directly invited.

It will not be the first award in which these two teams have not been included as the Best Watchparty ($50K) and the Best Team Presentation ($20K) contests will not include both teams/players as well.

In the PMWI Main Event, teams from India, China, and South Korea were also barred from the Watchparty ($75K) and Tik-Tok ($20K) contests.

However, PUBG Mobile, BGMI, and Tik-Tok have been banned in India by the government. This might be the main issue due to which Tencent has barred Indian teams from these awards.

Kojima Might be Teasing an Announcement for the Gamescom

Gamescom 2022 is set to take place on August 23. The event will be held in Germany and take place in the form of a 2-hours long live stream though there will be an in-person presence as well.

According to Geoff Keighley, there will be more than 30 games showcased at the event. However, in the latest news, there might be another presence at the event and interestingly that could be Hideo Kojima presenting his brand new game.

Earlier today, Kojima appeared to be working on putting together a teaser to show off when he tweeted two shots of editing software on his computer with the statement, “Tentatively done editing for now.” It seems quite probable that he’s hinting that a trailer will be revealed at the Opening Night Live showcase on August 24 given that Gamescom is only a few weeks away.

Ever since we found out about the existence of Project Overdose fans have been longing to learn more about Kojima’s brand-new horror game. However, the Tweet could imply multiple meanings.

It could be either that Kojima is working on a trailer showcase for Project Overdose. It was first announced back in Summer Game Fest 2022 when Kojima made a much-anticipated appearance to inform about the future of his studio.

However, many leakers claimed that a trailer for Overdose already exists and features Death Stranding actress Margaret Quailey. So, it is highly unlikely that the trailer is of Project Overdose, though he could be adding finishing touches.

Another possibility could be that the game is indeed the much-anticipated Death Stranding sequel. We know that Kojima is working on Death Stranding 2. There have been multiple reports and even sort of confirmation from Norman Reedus, the man who plays protagonist Sam Bridges in Death Stranding 1.

It is also entirely possible that the Tweet was just a random one and there might be nothing planned at all. Although it is well-known that Kojima likes to drop subtle cryptic hints before game showcases. If he indeed doesn’t appear at the Gamecom he could be editing something for The Game Awards as well that will also take place later this year.

Do you guys think Kojima will announce something at the Gamescom 2022? Let us know in the comments.
